Welcome to the ACS School Counseling Program!
The mission of the ACS School Counseling Program is to help every student maximize their academic, social, and personal potential, guiding them to become responsible adults and lifelong learners.
What is a School Counselor?
A school counselor is someone who listens and supports students in solving problems they may have with family, friends, or others. Counselors provide:
Classroom guidance lessons for all students
Small-group sessions (with parent permission)
Short-term individual counseling
They also teach important life skills and help students learn more about themselves.
Types of School Counseling Services Include:
Academic support and advisement
Goal setting
Parent education
Classroom lessons on personal growth and development (topics include bullying, self-esteem, character education, empathy, and personal & online safety)
Individual and group counseling (with parent permission)
Social skills development
Community referrals
How Can a Student Meet with the Counselor?
Students can request to see the counselor by informing their teacher. Parents and teachers may also refer students. A referral form is available here.
Confidentiality
Counseling sessions are confidential. Information shared is kept private unless the student discloses plans to harm themselves or others, or experiences of abuse or neglect. In these cases, counselors are mandated reporters and must inform parents and/or appropriate authorities.
Mrs. Finney, a lifelong Catholic, holds a Master’s degree in Counselor Education from the University of North Florida. She has worked with children and families since 2006. Mrs. Finney is on campus five days a week and can be reached at [email protected].
