In addition to the core academic subjects—Reading, English, Math, Science, and Social Studies—we offer a rich program in:
Religion
As a Catholic school, Religion is a central part of our academic curriculum. Daily Religion classes provide students with a deep understanding of Catholic teachings, values, theology, scripture, tradition, saints, and sacraments. Catholic values are infused across all subject areas to help students grow in both knowledge and faith.
As students progress through the grades, their studies include:
The Ten Commandments
The structure and mission of the Catholic Church
Catholic prayers, scriptures, and liturgical seasons
Lives of the saints
In upper grades: study of the Old Testament, Gospels, morality, and Church history
Each week, students attend Mass with their "buddy class," fostering a sense of community and mentorship. Every grade also prepares and leads an annual prayer service, which is shared with parents and their buddy class.
Music
Students in kindergarten through sixth grade enjoy dynamic weekly music classes exploring rhythms, instruments, songs, and music history. In seventh and eighth grade, they choose between choir and band, where they develop impressive musical talents and performance skills. Our spirited Angel Choir performs at all school Masses and special events, while the energetic Angel Band and drum line bring excitement to parades, pep rallies, and celebrations. Annual highlights include the Christmas program, Spring Concert, and Spring Musical, with past productions such as Dear Edwina, Jr., Godspell, Jr., and Schoolhouse Rock that truly bring the stage to life!
Technology
Technology instruction occurs weekly in Annunciation’s technology lab located in the media center. We emphasize strong typing skills and proficiency in a variety of software, including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Projects vary by grade level, ranging from creating a Stations of the Cross PowerPoint in third grade to budgeting in Excel in eighth grade. Students also learn website creation, coding, and engage in many other hands-on activities that prepare them for the digital world.
Spanish
Spanish lessons take place twice weekly in each student’s classroom. Students learn age-appropriate vocabulary, conjugations, sentence structure, and dialogue. They explore Spanish-speaking cultures through studies of countries, foods, and holidays. Additionally, students learn prayers and songs in Spanish, fostering respect for other nationalities and an appreciation for the diverse contributions to our nation.
Physical Education
Physical Education is taught twice a week on the school soccer field (weather permitting) or in our gymnasium. The focus is on physical fitness and developing healthy lifestyle habits. Students learn the importance of cardiovascular exercise, good nutrition, and hygiene. Through games and relays, they develop skills essential to team sports—such as kicking, throwing, fleeing, dodging, coordination, speed, agility, communication, and sportsmanship.
